Platforms provide Food and Shelter to Fish during all Stages of their Life Cycle

These egg-laying plantkavores, Brown chromus chromus multilineata, are a shallow water reef fish that feed on zooplankton or small prey. They lay clutches of eggs in the nooks and crannies on the platform transoms and bell housings and can be found in large numbers around structures producing in blue water. The post larval fish consume diatoms and epiphytes which settle on the surface of the algae and bivalves that attach to the platforms. The little fish spend their entire lives on the platforms in search of food, mating, and darting around competing for territory. This platform is in 200 m of water and 70 km from the nearest natural reef recruiting grounds. This large school of fish is not composed of vagrants attracted from natural sources 70 km away.
